The Canadian Studies Program provides seed grants to faculty pursuing the study of Canada on a case-by-case basis. Awards are made at the director’s discretion.
Funding is open to any Berkeley faculty member engaged in research or study focused primarily or comparatively on Canada. Applications should describe a project which will contribute to knowledge about Canada and/or the Canadian-U.S. relationship. Eligible projects may include pilot research for a larger project or grant proposal; research for a planned publication or academic talk; development of new teaching materials, or public outreach applying existing research to a real-world impact. Grants range from $1,000-$2,000, with two to four total awards available per year.
Applications are accepted throughout the academic year.
Applicants should send a brief, 1-2 page proposal to Canadian Studies at email@example.com. The proposal should describe the following:
- The total amount requested, and intended purpose of the funding
- A description of how the work advances research, academic scholarship or public knowledge
- A description of how the work advances knowledge of Canada, or otherwise supports Canadian Studies' mission
