Canadian Studies Director Irene Bloemraad was interviewed by Anna Maria Tremonti of CBC Radio’s The Current on the fate of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients. Professor Bloemraad notes that Canada’s immigration is based on 1) economic criteria –  bringing in the best and the brightest 2) humanitarian concerns – helping those at risk and 3) family reunification –  allowing people to join family members who are living in Canada. Bloemraad suggests that on all three of those streams, by welcoming DACA recipients, the United States’ loss could be Canada’s gain.
